Artificial intelligence is the technology of the future, so it’s only expected to uncover several myths about it.
The AI objective list expands yearly. And although it’s for the betterment of humanity, not everyone is happy or welcoming of the dynamics. However, the earlier you understand the realities and the untruths, the better:
1. Artificial intelligence will take over our jobs
Many common myths about AI revolve around the workplace, especially about this technology putting us out of work. This belief isn’t baseless, considering that we can now automate many functions.
However, artificial intelligence cannot take over our jobs; and instead of replacing human resources, this technology improves their efficiency. For instance, there is AI that assists surgeons in the operating room. And some help with diagnostic testing or even assessing credit checks.
2. Artificial intelligence will have consciousness
You’re not alone if you believe AI will have consciousness. The general belief is that they’ll eventually be able to think as we do, but that’s a false assumption.
Regardless of the level of advancement this technology makes, its identity will never grow beyond a set of algorithms. Some artificial intelligence devices have been programmed to relate to humans, tell jokes, and simulate other human activities, but it’s important to remember that it’s just programming.
3. AI won’t make mistakes
There’s also a growing belief that artificial intelligence cannot make mistakes. However, the reverse is the case, and we see everyday cases of them misunderstanding tasks, making wrong prognoses, and failing to recognize texts and speech.
The truth is that artificial intelligence is more relevant and valuable under human control.
4. AI is a trend that’ll soon expire
The 21st century is famous for its many trends that come and go. However, you may be wrong if you believe that artificial intelligence technology is one of them.
In contrast, this technology is very valuable for the performance of many tasks. And it helps that it can reduce human casualties in many areas.
5. AI is an unnecessary luxury
Not so! Although artificial intelligence appears to be an unnecessary luxury, it saves companies more money. It enhances customer interactions and services, gathers data in a better and more efficient manner, and even alerts you before problems with equipment and tools occur.
6. AI is unbiased
Although artificial intelligence is better at analyzing information, it’s not without bias. This technology learns from users’ data, explaining why and how our behaviors and speech and reaction patterns are imitated.
7. AI is only useful in the industrial sector
This is largely untrue. The domestic sector also enjoys artificial intelligence, and so do social services, marketing, insurance, and many others.
8. Artificial intelligence will only replace mundane jobs
Artificial intelligence primarily dominates the workforce in areas where we can automate tasks. These are mundane jobs, but that’s not all this technology can and will do.
It can also replace human resources in more complex areas, such as detecting diseases, fraud detection, and even money management.
